TributesWELCOME HOMEWhile working in a food pantry at a local church, several of our volunteers met Karen, a single mother with two daughters. Karen and the girls had lost all of their possessions in a devastating fire. Fortunately, the family was given temporary housing during renovation of their apartment, but Karen could not afford to buy new furnishings for her home. When it was time for the family to move back into their apartment, our volunteers teamed up with those from area churches to make a list of the family’s most important needs. With the list in hand, Mission of Deeds volunteers loaded our truck with items collected from our warehouse. Among the items were beds, tables, chairs, linens, dishes, lamps, and even a computer for one of Karen’s daughters. After the items were moved into Karen’s apartment, and before the family arrived home, the volunteers also washed dishes, organized the kitchen, and assembled the beds. One of our volunteers also set up the computer and prepared the following message as a screen saver: "Welcome to your new home from your friends at the Mission of Deeds." |
