A LITTLE HELP FROM HER FRIENDS

A little help goes a long way when clients, such as Maria, have no place else to turn for assistance. Fortunately for Maria, the Mission of Deeds was able to help her overcome a difficult situation that many people might have found to be overwhelming or unmanageable.

Maria was adopted by a family at a very young age, but that adoption ended several years ago. With no family to call on for support, she has received some assistance from the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, but not any of the resources and assistance available to individuals and families who are homeless.

This type of assistance was not available to Maria because she was living, or barely surviving, on her own in a small, sparsely furnished apartment. How sparse? The apartment was furnished with a bed and no other furniture -- no table, no chairs, no couch, no television. That all changed the day the Department referred Maria to the Mission of Deeds and set up an appointment for her to visit our warehouse to pick out furniture and other items for her apartment.

Today, Maria’s apartment looks like a real home with a kitchen table and chairs, couch, television, TV, lamps, curtains, and a desk. That desk, according to all reports, provides Maria with a place to study while maintaining her "A" average at a local community college.

Life's greatest happiness is to be convinced we are loved.
